Ladies and Gentlemen,
As Christmas fast approaches, I was reflecting on how much progress has been made here in Barrow County in the area of economic development over the past 4 years. This much needed growth did not happen by accident, but through the hard work and efforts of our Chamber of Commerce, economic development sector team, and of course our Barrow County Board of Commissioners, led by Chairman Doug Garrison.

While many citizens and citizens groups were content to keep Barrow County a bedroom community, with little or no desire for any kind of economic change outside the boundaries of the 1970's, Chairman Garrison had the vision and the guts to buck the status quo of "no growth" elitists in this county who attempted to inflict their narrow minded will on the rest of the citizens of Barrow.

Despite this effort, Chairman Garrison continued to cultivate business relationships with new developers and interested business owners to bring much needed economic change to Barrow. Some examples are the new Home Depot, Fatz Cafe,Ruby Tuesdays,Goody's, and a host of others still to come in the near future.

While we face continued turmoil in the financial, and real estate markets, brought on by the sheer mind-numbing GREED of Wall Street, and the fat cats in the ivory towers who continue to jump out of their failed businesses with huge mulit-million dollar "golden parachutes" laughing all the way to the bank, it is at the very least, in this writers opinion, comforting to know that for a short period of time we had one of the best County Commission Chairman in this state, Mr. Doug Garrison leading our county into the forefront of economic development.

I am proud to call Doug Garrison my friend. Doug, you will be missed by many in this county, and your efforts to re-vitalize Barrow County will not soon be forgotten. You are leaving some big shoes to fill for the next Chairman.

In closing, I hope the citizens of Barrow County will take a moment out of their busy Christmas schedules to thank Chairman Doug Garrison for his excellent service and leadership over the last 4 years. He deserves it.

Well done Doug! Now go enjoy some much needed time with your family. You deserve it!

Until next time........................

Mr. Anderson, as much as it pains me to say this, I agree with you on this issue!! Mr. Garrison has done a wonderful job for the growth of Barrow Co. and I believe, as time will tell, will be missed. Great job Mr. Garrison. Just curious Mr. Anderson, how do you feel about the talks on privatising the airport? Do you agree with this?

Mr. Brogan,
The issue of possible private sector ownership of the airport is a hot button issue now, as it has been in the past when the subject has come up from time to time.It will be interesting to see how Mr.Yearwood and the new commissioners choose to approach this possibility.
To answer your question, I would be in favor of any process that would have a favorable net revenue impact on service and operational expenses, while minimizing the impact on surrounding residential and agricultural properties.

As a pro-growth proponent I often find myself in direct conflict with many citizens groups, who hold a different view on the growth subject.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I thouhgt this would be your response, and again, I agree with you on this issue. I wish you would return to the BCW blog and respond to some of the (well let's just say less intelligent) reasons as to why this should not be done. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Mr. Anderson. God Bless.

Mr. Brogan,
Per your request and other frequent readers of this site, I posted comments relating to the airport issue last week. As usual, because I backed Doug Garrison during the election and campaigned for him in a high profile manner, I put myself at odds with the CCOBC and the BCW blog site participants, which results in removal of any post I make, regardless of topic.
Of course, when pressed to explain their reasons for the removal of my posts, they spew their totalitarian rules and regulations listed at the beginning of the site. This is typical of "Our way is the only way" mentality offered by these groups.

It is clear that I am one of the few citizens in this county that is willing to stand up to these citizen groups and offer opposing viewpoints which of course, they will have no part of. But,I will continue to challenge some of the opinions and platforms they feel should be implemented in our county regardless of opinions to the contrary by other citizens. In my view, censorship is censorship no matter how cleverly it is packaged or explained. Sorry I wasn't able to be of more assistance.
Until next time....................
