Ladies and Gentlemen,
Those of you who have served in the military, know the value of not paying for the same real estate twice. Well, that is exactly what Gov. Perdue and the Georgia State Legislature are doing to our education system in Georgia, by continuing to cut education funding, and requiring teachers to take unpaid furlough days, along with school closings and increasing class sizes, and reducing the number of teachers to instruct them.

Several days ago, I almost fell out of my easy chair, when I heard Gov. Perdue say on a local news channel,"That we have worked too hard for the last 20 years to build up the current education system in Georgia,to simply watch it be destroyed by additional budget cuts". "We must find a way to protect Education". Apparently, through the Grace of God there is still some electrical current making it's way to the Governors brain, and the light bulb has finally begun to flicker....... ever so slightly. Better late than never, I always say.

First, I want to make some clear and concise points. The planned additional cuts to the Georgia Education budget WILL NOT BALANCE THE BUDGET, NO MATTER HOW MANY SCHOOLS WE CLOSE, NO MATTER HOW MANY TEACHERS WE FURLOUGH, LAY OFF, OR TERMINATE! THE BUDGET WILL NOT BE BALANCED BY OFFERING BUYOUT PACKAGES TO TEACHERS WHO ARE AT, OR CLOSE TO BEING READY TO RETIRE. WE WILL NOT BALANCE THE BUDGET BY ELIMINATING ALL THE PDC CENTERS IN EVERY COUNTY,AND THEIR STAFFS! Those are the facts, folks like it or not.

Many of you in the private sector who have lost jobs, or have family or friends who have lost jobs, argue that the Education sector should have to suffer just like the rest of us, and should not be given any special treatment. I agree, that Education must be willing to bear their FAIR share of the burden,to help our state economy recover. Having said that, I believe that the Education Community has done MORE THAN their fair share, already, but continue to be singled out by the legislature for further cuts. Yet Purdue says we must protect Education. The statement by Gov. Perdue, and the actions of the Georgia State Legislature are in severe conflict! So which is it going to be? Save Education, or systematically degrade the system with further budget cuts, that will destroy 20 Years of hard work and effort by so many here in Georgia.

Slash and burn budget politics is the WRONG ANSWER to solve the budget shortfall here in GA. How can Teachers be expected to teach a quality curriculum, with a class size that is doubled?? DO you really think that any Teacher will be able to give real quality expertise to each individual student, going from 25 kids to 50? In what universe does that work? As you add more responsibilities to ANY job description, you reduce productivity, because the individual is forced to fractionalize their efforts so that all areas are covered, but at what cost? The cost is reduced productivity, pure and simple. You gain NOTHING with this approach.

Ladies and Gentlemen, despite opinions to the contrary, the children of the state of Georgia ARE OUR FUTURE!! Without a quality education, the future of our children, as well as the future of our state is in great danger. We must not allow that to happen. We must at all costs, protect our entire Education community, not just pre-k, or the university system, but THE ENTIRE EDUCATION SYSTEM HERE IN GEORGIA, which includes K-5,6-8,and 9-12, as well as the Teachers and Educators of those grade levels.

I ask that you continue to let you voices be heard in Atlanta, and demand that Education funding cuts be stopped right now. Tell your representative in Atlanta to fund our Education system here in GA, or plan on looking for another line of work come election time! Georgia, let's protect our kids now, while we still have the chance!!

I will continue to be an independent positive voice for full and complete Education funding in the State of Georgia, until someone in Atlanta finally listens!

Until next time...............

It would appear that the Legislature is taking a 2nd look at reducing the cuts originally planned for the State university system, after Gov. Perdue made his recent remarks about finding a way to save an education system that has taken over twenty years to build.
It would be interesting to hear some thoughts on this matter from those who serve us in Atlanta, as well as those who are seeking to be elected to state senate seats.

It's funny how politicians get quiet after
legislation gets approval, vs how loud they are when they need your vote to get elected. Some things never change........

I continue to see more folks in Barrow county wanting to stop the financial bleeding in the Education community in Georgia. They realize that Education is a basic foundational building block of our entire society. I hope you will join them in their efforts.

Parents sharing their anger at those politicians in Atlanta who are turning their backs on Education and their kids dreams. It is clear that a voter backlash is coming in July against those who will not make Education a top priority.
I continue to fight to protect our kids hope and dreams during my campaign!

So Dewayne.... Where is the money to come from??? We are TAXED enough!! Go back to the Budget... As private schools are and Get Rid of the FAT!!!

reb7771 commented on Tuesday, Jun 08, 2010 at 08:04 AM

To answer your question, independent outside investment in the Education system here in Barrow County and the State of Georgia, is an idea whose time has come. The "tax box" is full, and we can not rely on it to solve all of our problems.
I have taken a leadership role in discussing this with several leading Republican Candidates running for various State and Federal offices, and they agree that we should at the very least start bi-partisan discussions on this subject. My campaign has never and will never vote to raise taxes. Barrow County taxpayers will not support that from any candidate for any office.
My campaign will not under any circumstances support the "Slash and Burn" politics coming out of Atlanta.

It is time to start talking about what we CAN DO for Education, NOT what we CAN"T DO! Our kids hopes and dreams are more important than political agendas no matter which party it comes from.

While others seem to be content with a butcher block mentality,or what I like to call "run and hide" political economics, my campaign subscribes to the mentality that when things are tough, the tough get going, and explore new investment opportunities.
As Gov. Perdue stated a couple of months ago, "We must find a way to save Education in Georgia. We can't afford to let 20 years of hard work go to waste." I agree................
Sincerely,
DuWayne R. Anderson

•Fiscal Responsibility
•Constitutionally Limited Government

You are not for either responsible outlook regarding education. You regard any cuts as "too drastic." When will you agree that the overwhelming amount given per student is enough?

You say you will not support slash and burn? Well the state has been slashed and burned ecnomically. The Bloated BOE must also cut the FAT!!!

reb7771 commented on Wednesday, Jun 09, 2010 at 16:14 PM

I respectfully disagree with your assessment that Education is bloated. You are simply attempting to put a price tag on what Your party leaders consider what is feasible vs. what is possible with bi-partisan support for freewill independent investment in Education, without raising property taxes or any other kind of taxes.
Despite your protests, I have spoken with several leading Republican candidates for state office that agree the "TAX BOX" is full, and we must start the dialogue on alternative investment.
You and your party may be willing to try to put a price tag on EDUCATION to satisfy your specific political agenda to gain votes away from Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, and Independents, but my campaign is not!
You can not put a price on Education! Take off the party blinders and ask yourself this question: Do we run and hide from the deficit, or do we stand and fight and expand the possibilities for our kids. " Slash and Burn Politics" serves no one, except those who are afraid to reach beyond the norm. My campaign can not and will not shrink from the responsibility to protect the hopes, dreams and future goals of our children, regardless of the outcome of the election in July.

Outside independent investment WILL WORK. The problem is not the possibilities, but the MINDSET of those who simply refuse to acknowledge that the possibilities exist. Our kids are simply more important than that!
By the way, if you don't agree, send me the video of you telling your kids and Grand kids, " sorry kids, but in the fiscally responsibility aspect of things, you simply aren't that important. Yeah, you send my campaign that video, and I promise I will post it on U-Tube ASAP! I am sure your "party" will enjoy that presentation.
Sincerely
DuWayne

There are steps that can be taken to save money on the whole for BOE. How about a CENTRAL library for all to support reading groups. Teachers could go and check out reading group books in groups of 6.
Yes, Mr. Fake Democrat there are cost cutting measures available for the BOE other than BO's Tax and Spend to the surfdom of the community!!

reb7771 commented on Thursday, Jun 10, 2010 at 17:40 PM

Again, it is now crystal clear that you are either not listening, or not understanding or not caring, or some combination of all three.
My campaign has never and will never promote tax and spend programs. My campaign has been up front about my political platform.

Your "Mr.Fake Democrat" comment proves my point, that you don't have a clue about my campaign. The reason you don't have a clue, is because you have never bothered to speak directly face to face with me. It is clear that someone in your "party" is pulling your strings, to try to discredit my campaign via blogs. This tactic has been tried before by others in this county that are a lot more experienced than you seem to be. I suggest you first get your thoughts straight, then work on getting or facts straight, and then give me a call. Or you can keep cutting open your "Tea Bag" as you have, to prove your self serving political points.

REB7771.... You begin each discussion with quotes from other Republicans stating there Must Be Cuts, stating how dishonorable they are for saying that. That has been the word ACROSS the board in the Private Sector for the last 2 years. We also, MUST, take steps to realistically look at the budget and see places where cuts can be made. WE CAN do this WITHOUT losses in Education gains. And as responsible parents, grandparents, and relatives to the next generation we can do this. Here is an example of another state cought in the same quandry. Notice no statements of other political leaders. JUST SOLUTIONS! http://www.taxpayersleague.org/phils-...

reb7771 commented on Friday, Jun 11, 2010 at 12:44 PM

With all due respect, I never begin any discussion with Republican quotes.(check and see if you are not confused on which blogs you are reading.)

You continue to promote the "closed mindset" of "we must cut". The budget you speak of is TAX BASED! My campaign is promoting INDEPENDENT NON TAX BASED INVESTMENT. Clearly we will not agree on what the best answer is, however, my campaign will move forward with my stated objectives for Education.

Where will the cuts be? Investments from where? There would be more repercussions from getting parents to pledge to read 20 minutes EACH day than by any of the things you speak of. Fox News Sunday AM did segment on peoples frustrations of Goverment Agencies unwilling to budget themselves as families have to. Again, Home is the beginning of Education...not the school!

reb7771 commented on Sunday, Jun 13, 2010 at 18:11 PM

Education is the key to all growth that we experience. You and others are prepared to put a price tag on Education, and my campaign IS NOT, and WILL NOT.
Independent investment options that are not tax based, are the key. These investments can come from many sectors, including private and public corporations, collective Education Trusts, an Education 401K that Georgia can implement, control, and execute.

While you want to whittle Education down to it's lowest denominator, my campaign looks to invest in what we have, and then invest more to insure growth. If you can't see that, then it seems we have come to the end of the discussion. Good luck with your approach.

Ok... So, you get private companies to invest. I pray you are successful in that measure. And, with this money you are able to back off teacher furloughs and additional preplanned cuts. Will you continue to widen these cuts business taxes and back off county contributions? My point is that with EVERY other part of our local community cutting back... why should these local public work employees keep not only same pay, but increases due to increased contributions by these businesses you are able to work with. Why are you considering them being "untouchable?"

reb7771 commented on Monday, Jun 14, 2010 at 08:25 AM

It is not a question of "untouchable". It is about continuing "The Cycle of Excellence", for our society. Education is the core of that "Excellence".
In point of fact, independent investment can be incorporated across the board to other sectors of the Georgia Economy. Again, the MINDSET is the problem, not the possibilities. In, order to get there, we have to be willing to discuss at length the possibilities. Those who are unwilling to have those discussions, are part of the problem, not the solution. The opportunity to reduce state and county taxes is also a possibility.
