Family fun night

So, as you may know, Friday night was cold and rainy. We opted to skip the camping trip and have a "family fun night" instead.

This can be taxing with an 11 year old who thinks he's 17.

We did have fun though. We spent the evening at Stars and Strikes in Dacula. We bowled three games, ordered a pizza, played laser tag and then played a few video games.

The best part was coming home to my warm, comfy and dry bed.

I thought of all those poor souls who ventured out to the woods in the rain to spend their evening sitting in a cold tent while the rain poured down.

And I decided that we accomplished the 'family' thing without the tent, bonfire and more importantly, without the rain.

We set up camp in the living room instead that afternoon.

We drank hot coco, watched Halloween SpongeBob episodes and ate lunch underneath our homemade tent, a camouflage comforter draped over a chair and ironing board.

We had our first fire in the fireplace this year, sat around in our fleece pajamas all afternoon and then got ready and went to Stars and Strikes all evening.

Then, on Saturday, we went shopping.

We all got books to read (me being the bookworm that I am, got three); we all got clothes and the boys both got new shoes.

So, yeah. We skipped out on camping.

Maybe we wimped out because the rain, but if skipping camping means we get to bowl, play laser tag, play video games, veg-out by the fireplace, watch one of my favorite shows, SpongeBob; and best of all, go shopping, then maybe we should skip camping more often!

Ms. Jackson,
The main theme I took from your blog, is that your family is a priority, no matter what the weather conditions! Making it a priority to not neglect family time is something more families should strive to accomplish. Congratulations on having a great family evening despite the rough weather. Keep up the good work.
